Stepfeeders

Stepfeeders separate and deliver individual logs to a debarker, twin line or any other log processing equipment.

We offer single acting stepfeeders for lower production applications and double acting for high production environments.

We manufacture machines to handle a wide variety of diameters, from small stepfeeders for moving logs from 3” to 14” in a typical cedar mill to large machines capable of feeding 36” diameter hardwood logs.

Stepfeeders are made in two basic sizes: one for logs up to 10 feet long and one for logs up to 16 feet long. Variations from these lengths are offered as well, and units can be twinned for long logs. We have built specialty stepfeeders as long as 40 feet and for log up to 36” in diameter.

Standard stepfeeders have 5 steps. Machines with 4 to 10 steps or more are also available for specific applications.

Single Acting Stepfeeders

Single acting stepfeeders consist of a heavy duty frame forming a stationary set of steps, and a moving set of steps actuated by two hydraulic cylinders. The moving steps rest on a set of heavy-duty cam rollers and are guided by UHMW guide plates on the sides.

Piece counts of up to 20 pieces per minute can be achieved. The hydraulic systems are designed to produce the desired piece count.

Double Acting Stepfeeders

Double acting stepfeeders are mostly used in softwood lumber production where high piece counts are essential. Standard machines can achieve piece counts of up to 40 pieces per minute.

These machines are built on a heavy-duty steel frame supporting two moving sets of steps, one moving up while the other moves down. A heavy-duty pivot arm with linkages and a heavy-duty gearbox ensure high piece counts.

The moving parts rest on a set of heavy-duty cam rollers and are guided by UHMW guide plates on the sides. The drive can be electric or hydraulic.
